Innovation is our adventure
With 183 patents filed, a team of 60 people and an investment representing 5 % of the company’s annual revenue, innovation is our adventure. It is rooted in our character, it guides our ambition and plays the leading role in our story.
Whether disruptive or incremental, it always draws on inventiveness and on the ability to stay tuned to others and question our approach and to grow and reinvent ourselves. Above all, it focuses solely on useful innovation, that which truly improves the care process. To do this we always stay modest, which guarantees the reliability and viability of our projects.
An in-house R&D department
Health is a constantly changing field of activity, where research is also a race to combat disease. Medical devices are a source of progress in the care provided to patients. That’s why innovation has been closely intertwined with company culture since the very beginning. To anticipate the products which are most likely to become standard in the future, Vygon opted to open an in-house research and development department.
Developers from the Vygon R&D department liaise constantly with production and marketing teams. Together, they invent the technical solutions that meet users’ emerging needs. Our medical devices are designed in our four development centres, in Ecouen, Aix-la-Chapelle, Lyon and Les Aires.
Partnership, a key to our R&D success
Our primary innovation partners are our customers, because they are our source of inspiration. Our R&D works directly with our teams in the field to ensure constant dialogue with health workers and doctors. This closeness and trust give rise to ideas that guide our research work and bring our projects to life.
We also build partnerships with medical research institutions.
For example, in conjunction with Institut Curie, Vygon has developed a new safety standard for medical devices used in oncology: the Qimono range, which protects medical staff exposed to cancer drugs, was one outcome of this cooperation.
Vygon is also happy to work with other manufacturers to channel its expertise into joint projects. Recently, Carmat selected Vygon to develop, on its behalf and alongside it, the high-precision connections required to complete its artificial heart device.
